Simpson Paper to Close Pulp Mill for 2 Years: Stung by high raw materials costs, Simpson Paper Co. said it will suspend operation of its pulp mill in the Shasta County town of Anderson for at least two years. About 100 of the mill’s 600 employees will lose their jobs. The mill will continue to make paper at the site. Simpson recently closed its Eureka pulp mill, with a loss of 265 jobs. In announcing its Anderson decision, the company cited the high cost of the wood chips used in making pulp and the low prices for pulp itself.
