The Crusaders’ forward scored 35 points in two games to lead her team to the CIF Southern Section Division IV-A title. Veasley scored 12 points in a 46-29 victory over St. Genevieve in the semifinals, then had 23 points, 11 rebounds and 11 steals in a 66-52 victory over Bell-Jeff in the title game.
Other top prep performers:
Timicha Kirby, a junior forward for the Lynwood High basketball team, scored 40 points in two Southern Section Division I-AA playoff games. She scored 18 points in the Knights’ 56-37 semifinal victory over Poly. She then scored 22 points in a 58-41 win over Capistrano Valley that gave Lynwood the championship.
Karla Taggert, a senior for the Cerritos High softball team, pitched a no-hitter to defeat Gahr, 2-0, in the Cypress Tournament.
