In a voter turnout considered heavy, senior citizens throughout the county elected three new representatives to participate in the California Senior Legislature, according to the Ventura County Area Agency on Aging.
With 2,175 ballots cast Tuesday, voters picked Joseph Ellenbogen of Camarillo over Edward Shuck of Thousand Oaks for the seat of senior senator.
For the two assembly seats, Eugenie Wheeler of Ventura and Robert Unruhe of Ojai were the top vote-getters, beating Jesse Dunlap of Camarillo, Samuel Rosen of Newbury Park, Jean Dewey of Simi Valley and Oscar Karrin of Oxnard.
The turnout was about twice what it was during the last election two years ago. The California Senior Legislature, which meets in Sacramento in October, drafts bills related mostly to senior citizens and works with state legislators to get them passed.
