Violent Youth

Recent senseless killings by high schoolers have saddened all of us. Are metal detectors and beef-up security really the answer? I did not see any community leaders suggest any solution to the root of the problem--why have our young generation become so violent?
Has anyone suggested that we should condemn the glorification of violence in our media (movies, TV, etc.) and put the teaching of right and wrong back into schools (since it is difficult to count on the many dysfunctional family to do so)?
