Brian Hendrick scored eight points during a late 11-4 run Thursday night, helping California to a 78-72 victory over Oregon State at Corvallis, Ore.
The victory was the fifth in a row for the Bears, who are 18-8 overall and 11-6 in the Pacific 10 Conference, tied for second place with UCLA with one game to play and in position to attract a bid to the NCAA tournament.
Lamond Murray scored 23 points for Cal, which is 8-1 under interim Coach Todd Bozeman, who took over last month after Lou Campanelli was fired.
Oregon State (12-14, 8-9) has lost nine of its last 12 games and is assured of its second consecutive losing season.
Scott Haskin led Oregon State with 20 points and 10 rebounds.
Hendrick had 14 points and 11 rebounds and teammate Jason Kidd had 10 points, seven rebounds and seven assists.
Oregon 84, Stanford 73--Antoine Stoudamire scored 19 points at Eugene, Ore., to help the Ducks (10-19, 3-14) move out of last place in the Pac-10.
Stanford (7-22, 2-15) has lost 15 of its last 16 games.
