Glad about GLAAD: Actor Sir Ian McKellen will be honored with a special award Saturday night for his activism on behalf of lesbians and gays at the fourth annual GLAAD/LA Media Awards, which recognize outstanding portrayals of lesbians and gays in entertainment. Roseanne and Tom Arnold will also receive special recognition at the Beverly Hilton awards ceremony for their support of the gay and lesbian communities. ABC’s “Roseanne” (which features lesbian characters) will receive the award for outstanding TV comedy and Fox’s “Melrose Place” (which has an openly gay character) for outstanding TV drama. Judith Light will host the event; presenters include Steve Allen, Beatrice Arthur, Amanda Donahoe, Della Reese and JoBeth Williams.
