Closing Bases in California
The people of California elected Dianne Feinstein and Barbara Boxer to the U.S. Senate, and helped elect Bill Clinton to the presidency by a 1.5 million-vote margin. It should have been more than clear that military spending was going to be gutted.
Gov. Pete Wilson is wasting his time sending people to Washington to try to save our bases. What Wilson should be doing is telling the people of this state that the message we sent to Washington is that this country is spending too much on the military and it’s time for us to take our medicine.
President Clinton has asked us to sacrifice for the future. The first thing we can do is stop complaining about base closures.
