Westinghouse Bribery Trial Opens: Jury selection began in federal court in Newark, N.J., in a civil lawsuit in which the Philippines government accuses Westinghouse Electric Corp. of bribing an associate of former Philippines President Ferdinand E. Marcos. The bribe allegedly led to Westinghouse getting a contract to build a nuclear power plant, completed in 1985 but never operated. Efforts over the last several months to settle the suit collapsed. Westinghouse denies the allegations.
