Loyd Tittle; Pharmacist

Loyd Tittle, owner of Capitol Drugs in Sherman Oaks and West Hollywood, has died at his West Hollywood home. He was 41.
A former San Fernando Valley resident, Tittle died March 6 of complications of AIDS, said his business partner, Bruce Senesac.
Born in Chicago, he received a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy from the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and worked as a hospital pharmacist in Chicago. He came to California in 1979 and was a district manager and pharmacist for Thrifty Drug before working as a manager and pharmacist for Granada Convalescent Pharmacy in Granada Hills.
In 1988, he purchased Capitol Drugs in Sherman Oaks. He opened a second location in West Hollywood in 1991.
Tittle received several awards from the cities of Los Angeles and West Hollywood for community service.
He was a strong supporter of the Gay & Lesbian Community Services Center, the Adopt-a-School program, Angel’s Flight Runaway Youth Center and Childrens Hospital of Los Angeles, among other organizations.
He is survived by his mother, Marge Tittle of Benton, Ill.; brother Larry Tittle of West City, Ill.; sister Ruth Tittle Reed of Lexington, Ky.; nephews Brandon Kyle Hayes of Lexington and Loyd Randal Tittle of West City, and a niece, Ruth Ann Hayes of Lexington.
A funeral was held last week in Illinois. A memorial service is planned for 3 p.m. March 28 at the Powerbar, 8576 Santa Monica Blvd., West Hollywood. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Tittle’s name to the Gay & Lesbian Community Services Center, 1625 N. Hudson Ave., Los Angeles 90028.
