THOUSAND OAKS : 3-Week Festival to Focus on Latinos

California Lutheran University next month will host several events designed to increase awareness of Ventura County’s Latino community, including a concert featuring Latino composers and an all-day fiesta.
The sixth annual Festival de Encuentros, from April 5 through April 23 on the university’s Thousand Oaks campus, will offer a series of free cultural programs open to the public.
On April 21, Grammy-nominated Latino percussionist Poncho Sanchez will join the university’s concert and jazz bands in Cal Lutheran’s gym for a performance of works by Latino composers.
KNBC-TV news broadcaster Linda Alvarez will speak at 11 a.m. April 22 in the Preus-Brandt Forum.
A Chicano art show featuring local artists will be displayed in the Pearson Library throughout the three-week festival.
The Festival de Encuentros will wrap up with a fiesta in Kingsman Park on the Cal Lutheran campus off Olsen Road, at 11 a.m. April 23.
