WASHINGTON — Eight opponents of a hazardous waste incinerator in Ohio were fined $50 each for staging a demonstration in the White House after a guided tour.
Secret Service agents arrested the eight on Thursday after they fell to their knees in the ballroom, sang protest songs and refused to leave. They pleaded guilty in Superior Court to a misdemeanor charge of unlawful entry, trespass and failure to quit.
They were released Friday after paying the fines and court costs.
