A U.S. soldier who admitted to leaving her 4-week-old daughter to die while she went on vacation was sentenced to 33 years in prison, according to Stars and Stripes, the U.S. military’s unofficial newspaper. Pfc. Cassie R. Byrd, 21, had pleaded guilty to murder on Feb. 25 for leaving her baby in her apartment in the Bavarian city of Ansbach and flying to Georgia for a three-week vacation.
