Community Psychiatric Centers Subsidiary Acquires Its Third Transitional-Care Facility

Community Psychiatric Centers of Laguna Beach announced Tuesday that its Transitional Hospitals Corp. subsidiary has acquired a 102-bed hospital in Tampa, Fla., for an undisclosed price. The hospital will be the third transitional-care facility that the company has set up. It is intended to house patients who are discharged from intensive care units at general hospitals. Such care is less costly, said Suzanne S. Hovdey, a spokeswoman for Community Psychiatric, because it does not involve the overhead required to operate a general hospital. The company’s first two transitional-care units opened in late 1992 in New Orleans and Arlington, Tex.
