NORTH HOLLYWOOD : Carjacker, 18, Gets Life Sentence

An 18-year-old North Hollywood man was sentenced to life in prison Thursday immediately after a Superior Court jury convicted him of kidnaping a man during a carjacking.
After a one-day trial, Kristopher Brewer was found guilty of kidnaping for robbery, a crime which carries a mandatory life sentence.
“He doesn’t look so tough without a gun in his hands,” Superior Court Judge Darlene Schempp said before she handed down the sentence.
Gregory Galloway, 19, of Chatsworth, was accosted at gunpoint at a West Hills gasoline station on the night of Sept. 13. After forcing Galloway to drive about one-half mile, Brewer ordered him out of the vehicle and sped off. Galloway summoned police, who spotted the vehicle with its personalized license plates on the Ventura Freeway.
After a short chase, Brewer crashed the car into a light pole and was arrested.
Brewer will first be eligible for parole in about eight years.
