A Call for Legislation
Recently I sat in a room with a large group of other members of the theatrical community and was fortunate enough to receive an award for producing a play called “Woyzeck.” I considered making this statement but was hesitant to end the evening on such a heavy note. I would like to say it now:
In “Woyzeck,” we presented doctors as villains, sadists and oppressive of women. Although these characters have basis in fact, most health-care workers are doing good and are worthy of our respect.
In the wake of the killing of Dr. David Gunn, I call upon all of us to reject and fight religious terrorism, and I call upon the L.A. theatrical community to do its part.
The best way to act now is through the government. If you would like to call for “zero tolerance” of intolerance, contact your representatives, the Justice Department and the White House and ask them to pass and enforce laws protecting safe and free access to health-care clinics, laws that will criminalize terrorizing health-care workers, their friends and families.
