* * Marlon Jordan, “The Undaunted,” Columbia. Trumpeter Jordan is still searching for an identity. His tone is sometimes personal, as on the steamy and slow version of Coltrane’s “Village Blues.” But on other numbers he resembles Wynton Marsalis, even employing the wah-wah growls that that hornman is so fond of lately. Some tunes, such as “Confrontation” and “In and Out,” go on too long without much happening--part of the blame for this must fall on producer George Butler’s shoulders. Saxophonist Tim Warfield and pianist Eric Reed outshine the leader and steal the show.
