Pasadena : Reggae Concert Saturday
A coalition of public service and community groups will sponsor a reggae concert at the Rose Bowl next Saturday, featuring major performing artists and a health fair, to benefit youth programs.
The “Fun-d Fest” will include reggae artists Maxi Priest, Troop and Eek-A-Mouse in an event backed by, among others, the Tournament of Roses, the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce, the Pasadena Unified School District and the city of Pasadena.
The concert also has the support of neighborhood groups from the hillsides around the Rose Bowl, who generally oppose major events in the stadium because of noise and traffic.
The idea sprang from the Los Angeles riots last spring, said organizer Bruce Philpott, a former Pasadena chief of police.
“We had been talking about the idea that Pasadena should do something to give youths more hope,” he said.
Proceeds will go to a nonprofit foundation to fund educational and recreational programs.
Tickets, at $15 and up, can be purchased at Ticket Master locations or at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium box office.
