Jon Bochert said he will take a year off as basketball coach at Edison High School.
Bochert said he is taking time off for personal reasons. He will remain at the school as a teacher.
“I’ve been doing this for 22 years,” Bochert said. “I think it’s time to take a step back and see what I want to do for the next 10-15 years I’m in education.”
Bochert will be replaced by Larry Hirst, who has been a varsity assistant for the Chargers the past four seasons.
Bochert has been the Chargers’ coach for the past 10 seasons. He was an assistant at Edison the previous 12 years.
Edison has a record of 170-94 under Bochert. The Chargers were 19-9 and reached the quarterfinals of the Southern Section I-A playoffs last season.
