AIDS Care Inc. is banking on the support of Ventura County businesses and residents to raise $100,000 or more in this weekend’s AIDS Walk & Run for Life ‘93, the group’s chief fund-raiser that officials hope will generate up to one-third of its annual budget.
“It doesn’t matter how little you give,” said Chairman Jack Finnegan. “A lot of people giving a little bit of money will go a long way. Everyone’s contribution is important.”
The AIDS walk will begin at 10 a.m. Sunday at the pavilion at San Buenaventura State Beach. A 10K run of 250 or more people will begin at 8:30 a.m.
More than 1,000 walkers are expected on the 10-kilometer course, well above last year’s 400 participants.
AIDS Care is the county’s sole nonprofit organization serving the needs of people affected by HIV and acquired immune deficiency syndrome. County public health officials estimate that more than 3,000 residents are HIV-positive.
