British-bred Alnasr Alwasheek, making his American debut, rallied from last to a 3 1/2-length victory in Friday’s $55,000 allowance feature on the turf at Santa Anita.
Ibero finished second, a length in front of Cozzene’s Prince.
Alnasr Alwasheek, ridden by Eddie Delahoussaye, carried 116 pounds in the race for 4-year-olds and up. The time for the mile was 1:33 4/5.
The winner paid $8.20, $4.60 and $4. Ibero, ridden by Laffit Pincay and carrying 118, returned $3.80 and $3.20. Cozzene’s Prince, under Gary Stevens, paid $4.80.
The start was only the second outside England for Alnasr Alwasheek, whose last race was Oct. 3 when he was beaten by more than 19 lengths in the Group II Prix Dollar at Longchamp in France.
The victory at Santa Anita was worth $30,250, increasing the 4-year-old colt’s earnings in 10 career races to $214,351.
Alnasr Alwasheek, a bay son of Sadler’s Wells, broke last in the six-horse field and was 10 lengths behind at one point before beginning to surge at the half-mile pole.
