A university regent has called for the resignation of Nevada Las Vegas President Robert Maxson, saying his ability to lead “has been irretrievably lost” because of problems in recent weeks.
The regents will hold a special personnel session with Maxson on Wednesday. Two sources close to the situation, who asked not to be identified, said the 11 regents were almost evenly split on the Maxson issue.
Maxson has been criticized for his role in the resignation of basketball coach Jerry Tarkanian. Criticism intensified when it was learned that star basketball player J.R. Rider received special academic breaks.
