Murdoch Files for Waiver on Post Ownership: Rupert Murdoch filed for permission to own a newspaper and TV station in the same city, the last hurdle to regaining ownership of the New York Post. Murdoch was forced to sell the newspaper in 1988 because of an FCC rule prohibiting ownership of a TV station and a paper in the same market. The Federal Communications Commission’s approval of the waiver request would clear the way for Murdoch, who also owns WNYW-TV in New York, to save the Post from going out of business. Murdoch stepped in last month after it appeared the Post was about to shut down after months of ownership turmoil.
