Talking of his movies in Calendar (“A Hollywood Legend’s List,” March 28), Fred Zinnemann averred that, in “The Day of the Jackal,” Edward Fox “had to say a ridiculous line--’Nothing is ever a lady’s fault.’ ”
I wrote the screenplay of “The Day of the Jackal,” and there is no such line in the film.
But I am confident that, had the line existed, Fox’s delivery would have exonerated all the collaborators from disapprobation.
