Carson’s Anniversary Honor: Johnny Carson will be honored in New York on May 24, almost a year to the day after he left “The Tonight Show.” He will receive the Center for Communications’ annual Communication Award from Ted Koppel at a luncheon to be attended by about 600 people from the entertainment industry, including event chairman and NBC President Robert C. Wright, and ABC President Daniel B. Burke and CBS Chairman Laurence A. Tisch, both co-chairmen. Carson “engaged generations, influenced the nation’s political debate and rose above television rivalries to make him a national institution,” the center said. Previous recipients include William S. Paley, Grant Tinker and Otis Chandler.
