Petite Sonnerie Makes It Two for 18 With Victory

Petite Sonnerie, often a runner-up but rarely a winner, rallied to capture Thursday’s $36,000 feature race on the turf at Santa Anita.

The 4-year-old filly finished 1 3/4 lengths in front of Snappy Saros, with Happy Wife another length back in third.

The victory was only the second in 18 starts for Petite Sonnerie, who had finished second eight times and third once.

Eddie Delahoussaye rode Petite Sonnerie, who carried 120 pounds and was timed in 1:35 3/5 for the mile.

Sent off as the wagering favorite by the Santa Anita crowd of 9,890, Petite Sonnerie paid $4.80, $3.60 and $2.60. Snappy Saros, a 28-1 longshot ridden by Paul Atkinson and carrying 117, returned $13 and $5.60. Happy Wife, Laffit Pincay and 120, paid $3.

Petite Sonnerie, a British-bred filly trained by part-owner Walter Greenman, was behind front-runners Dixie Derby and Snappy Saros before moving in front in the stretch and wearing down Snappy Saros in the final strides.
