‘The Pearl Fishers’

While we at San Diego Opera are very happy to have Martin Bernheimer reviewing our shows, we must correct an assertion he made in our recent production of Georges Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers” (“Cheap Pearls for Bizet From San Diego Company,” March 29).
Bernheimer wrote that the duet “O lumiere sainte,” in the last act, was by Benjamin Godard and that no one other than Bizet would have minded its inclusion. That duet is in fact by Bizet and is from the original 1863 version. Godard is responsible for the trio with the same text that is often substituted in place of this duet.
