Encourage Use of Subcompact Cars
Some time ago, The Times reported that the Orange County Transportation Authority (OCTA) was considering selling permits to allow non-car-pool vehicles to drive the car-pool lanes (“Car-Pool Lane Access for Price Will Be Studied,” March 9).
I think the OCTA should also consider allowing subcompact cars and motorcycles to use the car-pool lanes for free, either at all times or during the rush hours only.
If feasible, this measure would encourage the purchase of subcompact cars for commuting and reduce pollution and relieve other freeway lanes of peak-hour congestion.
