Nation IN BRIEF : FLORIDA : Murder Defendant to Act as Own Lawyer

A judge ruled that the Florida man accused of murdering an abortion doctor can act as his own lawyer at his trial. Michael Griffin, 31, is scheduled to go on trial in June for the March 10 shooting of Dr. David Gunn in Pensacola. Escambia Circuit Judge John Parnham reminded Griffin, a chemical plant employee, that he could face the death sentence if convicted on the first-degree murder charge. He said he would appoint a standby attorney to help Griffin with any legal research.
