A Christian Fellowship church has been heavily damaged in an early morning fire ignited by faulty electrical wiring in the church office, a fire investigator said.
Praise Chapel Companerismo Cristiano Church, 4433 E. 58th St., Maywood, sustained about $325,000 in damage to its structure and contents after a 25-foot extension cord caught fire Tuesday about 3 a.m., Capt. William Franklin of the Los Angeles County Fire Department said Wednesday.
The fire spread to the interior of the church and destroyed its ceiling.
Investigators said the extension cord connected a radio and a lamp to a multiple socket under the desk.
They are uncertain whether it was the wiring in the cord, the appliances or the socket that started the 30-minute blaze, Franklin said.
