Table Talk
I’m writing this because I was so annoyed by John Maxtone-Graham’s article about cruise table mates, “Fear and Loathing at the Dinner Table,” March 28. I’ve admired Maxtone-Graham’s work for years, but his article about bad cruise table mates was mean and somewhat arrogant. I’m certain that Maxtone-Graham has been on many more cruises than we have, but his implication that the incidence of bad table mates is a common occurrence is incorrect. In our experience on 29 cruises during the past 15 years, my wife and I have yet to meet table companions, no matter how different from us, with whom we couldn’t get along.
