PALMDALE — A 26-year-old Palmdale man has been arrested on suspicion of murder in the death last week of his girlfriend’s 22-month-old daughter--the first Antelope Valley child abuse slaying since a string of seven such deaths that ended a year ago, officials said Monday.
Cleveland Spencer, described by sheriff’s deputies as the fiance of the child’s mother, was arrested Sunday after being interviewed by sheriff’s homicide detectives in Los Angeles. He remained in custody Monday without bail pending an arraignment.
Detective Jerome Beck said Spencer “made certain admissions” in the death of the infant, Simone Kosloff.
An autopsy Saturday concluded that the child died Thursday of cerebral trauma. The mother, Kaye R. Kosloff, was asleep during the Wednesday night incident, Beck said.
