Valley Ace Rivera Commits to Play for CS Sacramento

Willie Rivera, a right-hander who has been the mainstay of the Valley College pitching staff this season, said Tuesday he has committed to play at Cal State Sacramento. The former Burbank High ace is 8-2 in Western State Conference play with a 2.59 earned-run average and a conference-leading 71 strikeouts in 90 1/3 innings.
Moorpark College shortstop Brian Vasey is expected to sign with Cal State Northridge today, Raider Coach Ken Wagner said. Vasey, from Simi Valley High, was among the WSC leaders in runs batted in with 17. He has five homers.
L.A. City College third baseman Nestor Martinez, a Chatsworth product who finished the season batting .450 with three home runs and 38 RBIs, signed to play at Lewis and Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho.
Volleyball
Coley Kyman and Axel Hager of Cal State Northridge have been selected All-American men’s volleyball players by the American Volleyball Coaches Assn. Kyman was a first-team selection, and Hagar earned second-team honors.
