In response to “A 2nd Harvest to Feed the Poor,” May 6:
In only one place in this well-researched article was there a mention of self-help, and this was the drug and alcohol center in San Jose. Those people were encouraged to help salvage food that was donated to the local food bank, which in turn supplied food to the center.
It appears that this is a project in which people could be encouraged to help themselves. I am sure that more people would be inclined to help the poor if the poor made an appearance of helping themselves.
