Dole to Close Bakersfield Processing Plant: Dole Food Co. said its fresh vegetables unit will close one of its three carrot processing plants and lay off most of the plant’s 400 workers as part of a plan to consolidate its carrot operations. The plant, located in Bakersfield, is one of eight California plants operated by the company’s Dole Fresh Vegetables Co. unit. The consolidation will be completed by July.
