WESTMINSTER : Community Block Funds Allocated
- Share via
The Westminster City Council has approved the distribution of more than $1 million in federal Community Development Block Grant funds for the 1993-94 fiscal year.
The city received $1.2 million, about $250,000 more than it did last year, Finance Director Brian Mayhew said. More than 40 local agencies requested funds; the city approved final allocations last week.
“As a rule of thumb, we fund existing programs first, new programs second and then redistribute the money between them,” Mayhew said.
The Boys and Girls Club will receive $29,500, up from the current $24,500; the Drug Abuse Resistance Education program was allocated $14,000; and the Vietnamese Political Detainees Mutual Assn. will get $7,000.
Agencies that requested money and were turned down include the Vietnamese Chamber of Commerce and the Westminster School District’s Emergency Transitional Child Care program.
