License Plate to Help the Arts Is Proposed

“Support the arts. Bolt ‘em to your car.” So goes the sales pitch for a proposed California Arts License Plate designed by artist Wayne Thiebaud. Featuring an idyllic, seaside landscape, the plates have been launched as a fund-raiser for the California Arts Council.
After costs of initiating the program are met, more than $15 on each newly issued plate and most of a $10 renewal fee will be allocated to CAC for arts education and local arts programming. Standard plates cost $20. The purchase of the personalized plates, at an additional $40, will benefit CAC and the Environmental License Plate Fund.
To order the new plate, call CAC at (800) 201-6201 or any Department of Motor Vehicles office; 5,000 applications for the plate must be received by the end of the year to initiate the program.
