OUTLOOK
The Sailors reached the Division IV finals last year before losing to Irvine. The defense posted five shutouts and the team outscored opponents, 283-153, but last year’s team had six returning defensive players on it and this year’s has only three, including all-league linebacker Gonzales. The other two, however, are second-team all-league defensive backs Hlista and Edwards. Fielding only 27 varsity players, depth could be a problem as the season wears on. Two question marks can make or break a season--the offensive and defensive lines. Running back Tift returns, hoping to match last year’s 1,098-yard season--ninth-best in the county.
