GRAND FORKS, N.D. — The makers of Cream of Wheat are celebrating the 100th anniversary of the hot breakfast cereal, with--what else--breakfast.
Nabisco said it will throw a free citywide breakfast on Oct. 6 here, where a century ago a local miller thought part of a wheat kernel would make a tasty breakfast.
A day after the breakfast blowout, the Cream of Wheat plant in Minneapolis, built in 1927, will hold a birthday party for three generations of employees.
An estimated 10,000 bowls of the cereal are expected to be served during the two-day celebration.
About 70 million pounds of the cereal are produced annually in Minneapolis.
Cream of Wheat is a product of Nabisco Foods Group, a unit of RJR Nabisco.
