Air France to Cut 4,000 Jobs as Losses Soar: The French national airline said it will make the cuts by the end of 1994. The carrier said it lost $675.6 million in the first half of 1993, more than double the $266.7-million loss recorded in the comparable period last year. The job cuts represent a second rationalization plan for reining in costs and stemming losses. Spending cuts are aimed at saving $604.5 million in 1994 and $906.8 million in 1995 and in succeeding years. The airline said that with the cost cutting and sales of some assets, it expects to break even in 1995. It plans to sell some of its 57% holding in the Le Meridien hotel chain and to bring other shareholders into Servair, its airline catering subsidiary.
