California Amplifier Reports Profit Down 35%

California Amplifier Inc., a Camarillo maker of components for satellite dishes and wireless cable systems, said its fiscal second-quarter profit plummeted 35% despite a 21% increase in revenue.
For the three months that ended Aug. 28, the company earned $544,000 on revenue of $10.2 million. That compares with earnings of $838,000 on revenue of $8.4 million in the comparable period a year earlier.
Earnings in the latest quarter were smaller because of the higher cost of sales. The company said it made big investments to improve quality, but that resulted in production delays and so hurt gross profit margins.
For the six months that ended Aug. 28, California Amplifier earned $1.08 million, down 32% from a profit of $1.59 million a year earlier. Its revenue for six months totaled $18.8 million, up 13% from $16.7 million.
