Trading Withheld on Western Waste Industries’ Stock: The Torrance-based trash-hauling company’s stock never opened Thursday due to an imbalance of sell orders, apparently sparked by rumors that its proposed merger with Browning-Ferris Industries Inc. had fallen through, analysts said. Trading on Western Waste stock is expected to resume today. Both companies said they remain committed to the proposed merger and filed antitrust documents.
