Prop. 168 on Housing
* Proposition 168, the affordable-housing measure to be voted on Nov. 2, is a guise by the state government to gain more control over local government. Its facade is about affordable housing, which most of us would readily agree is needed.
However, the provisions in this proposition would take local control away from the community and put it directly into the hands of state government. Affordable housing, in this case, is merely being used as a tool by the state government to assume more power, and the proponents of affordable housing should not be fooled by this attractive yet deceptive mask; what lies beneath the surface is a power-grab.
Affordable housing can be achieved by methods more positive and satisfactory than those offered by Proposition 168.
