A retired master sergeant who was suspected of killing three co-workers and wounding two others at Ft. Knox, Ky., was in perilous condition, and investigators feared any explanation for the shootings might die with him. No charges were filed against Arthur Hill, 53, and investigators still had no motive. Hill was in critical and unstable condition at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Louisville, where authorities said he shot himself in the mouth Monday about two hours after the shootings. The FBI and Ft. Knox officials said they had been unable to speak with two surviving victims who were upgraded from critical condition. All five victims were civilian employees at the Training Support Center at Ft. Knox.
