State Leaders Pledge to Develop New Industry: Gov. Pete Wilson and Assembly Speaker Willie Brown were among the officials who signed a pledge in Pasadena to support the development of the state’s advanced transportation and telecommunications industries. The plan, formulated by a panel of the California Council on Science and Technology, is a blueprint for the development of new industry focused on low-emission vehicles, high-tech communications, advanced mass transit systems and other technologies designed to create 400,000 jobs by 2010.
