Fans have been waiting all season for Empire League favorites Los Alamitos and Esperanza to play one another. They’ll do it at 7 p.m. Friday at Gahr High School in Cerritos. The Griffins are 8-0 overall, 3-0 in league; the Aztecs are 6-2 and 3-0. Last season, quarterback Tim Carey (now at Stanford) led Los Alamitos to a 34-14 victory in the season game, but Esperanza bounced back behind lineman Travis Kirschke (now at UCLA) to finish as Division II co-champions with the Griffins. The title game ended in a 14-14 standoff.
