A Man in Love (Bravo Sunday at 5 and 11:30 p.m.; Friday at 8 p.m.; Saturday at 1 a.m.) is the film in which French director Diane Kurys, an expert at delineating intimate emotions, made her English-language debut. This steamy, rich 1987 backstage romance stars Peter Coyote as an intense, arrogant American movie star who becomes involved with his co-star, a Parisian stage actress (Greta Scacchi), while filming in Rome. With Jamie Lee Curtis, Claudia Cardinale and Peter Riegert.
Tatie Danielle (Cinemax Wednesday at 4 p.m.), Etienne Chatilez’s deliciously unpredictable 1991 film, is a sharp, funny and relentlessly outrageous satire. It features the meanest old lady (the amazing Tsilla Chilton) you ever saw on the screen.
Cross My Heart (Cinemax Wednesday at 6 p.m.) is another 1990 film from France that reminds us that the French are unrivaled at movies about dewy schoolmates coming of age, and this is that rarity: a kids’ film with integrity. Sylvain Copains stars.
