FACES ‘94: Some Names to Be Reckoned With in the New Year : TELEVISION : Margaret Cho

“I’ve always been a natural slacker,” says comedian-actress Margaret Cho. “Now I’ll have to be a professional slacker. I’ll be busy, but I’ll always look like I just got out of bed.”
The 24-year-old will have good reason to get out of bed this year. Following her brief appearances in the Disney feature “Angie I Says” and in the Korean-American feature “Broken Words,” Cho is set for some high-profile work as the star of a comedy series being developed at Disney.
A star turn in a series is a plum for any actress, but Cho says the gig doesn’t surprise her. “It’s a natural extension for me to be on television,” she explains. “I’ve always had my own show running, it just hasn’t been broadcast before.”
Cho says that the best part of the success she’s enjoyed so far has been the pay-back that her stand-up career has made possible. “I’ve seen people at my shows that used to beat me up as a kid, because I was a terrible misfit. Now I’m so vindictive, and it’s a joy. The people who took my lunch money are now paying to hear me talk about them on stage. That’s the best.”
