LA HABRA : City Will Replace Broken Water Main
- Share via
The city is planning to spend about $50,000 to replace an 8-inch water main that burst last month and caused some local flooding.
The pipe is located under Imperial Highway and Beach Boulevard. When it burst, it created holes 15 feet in diameter on the streets.
City crews have made temporary repairs by blocking the water flow. They have rerouted water so residents aren’t affected. But if the pipe is not replaced, hundreds of residents could go without water should there be another break, said Elray Hanna, general manager of public services.
“The pipe has been bypassed,” Hanna said. “We had to isolate it so the water is not flowing through now but we need to have the system circulating again. We need that section of pipe for the recirculation of our water.”
The pipe replacement could take several months and has to be approved by Caltrans.
