RAISING THE FLAG: More than 200 light-pole banners, just like those used in the 1984 Olympics, will go up along main thoroughfares in Inglewood next week advertising the city’s five main claims to fame.
The yellow-and-white nylon banners will have the business logos of Hollywood Park, the Great Western Forum, Inglewood Cemetery and Centinela and Daniel Freeman hospitals with the slogan, “City of Champions.”
“It’s kind of a mutual enhancement effort,” said Assistant City Manager Norman Cravens. Partners for Progress, a consortium of the city and the five businesses, will pay $21,000 for the banners and city workers will install them along Prairie Avenue, the main route from the newly opened Century Freeway into the heart of the city.
