While the attack on Nancy Kerrigan is an outrage, it is equally outrageous that she was awarded a place on the Olympic team at the expense of Michelle Kwan.
The essence of the Olympics is competition. Regardless of the reason, Kerrigan did not compete. While special dispensation may be warranted, displacement of another competitor is not. It is akin to giving Steffi Graf’s U.S. Open trophy to Monica Seles.
